i recently purchased an expensive line 6 flextone 2xl amp which cost me a lot of money......about 700!! .......not having much money left i had to settle for an ibanez rgr220dx..........i have played the guitar loads and i think its a nice guitar......plays perfectly.......the tone could be better but it is a lower range ibanez model .........what do other people think of the rgr220dx?

The guitar, as a whole, isn't that good.
Single locking trem, weak pickups, and shody quality body and electronics.

However, the neck on this model is the same neck that Ibanez uses on all it's "Locking" models up to the RG4xx and including the JEM555.

It's the Wizard II neck and is quite similar to the original JEM profile.

In fact, If any one is looking for necks for JEM projects, these necks are perfect for the job and can be had for pennies.

RG220's usually sell used for under $250.

Remove the neck...sell the rest...and you have a quality neck for about $100.

I have seen them with maple and rosewood boards, black or chrome hardware, dot or shark-tooth inlay.

RG2xx series bodies are made of plywood ("laminate"). While not the greatest body selection in the world, it's not complete junk. I had a Strat copy when I was 15 (first guitar) that was comparible in weight to the real thing, and had a decent tone once the pickups were replaced.

If you're planning on keeping the guitar for a while, cheap upgrades can be had in the form of an OFR or TRS to bring your guitar up to "double locking" specs without body modification, and ANY pickups would definitely help the tone. If you decide to eventually get a custom body, your hardware investment will easily transfer to the new guitar.

Starting in the second half of 2001, RG2XX were shipped with double locking tremolos. The footprint is the same as the original Floyd, which is to say that it is not low profile. Anything on your local dealers' wall is old stock.
