RGR580 pickups help

Hi everybody, Im new here, but I was just wondering if anyone would be able to offer me some advice on pickups for my RGR580, its got a mahogany body, aanj neck joint, and maple fretboard, so I thought that maybe dimarzios could end up sounding a bit washed out or muddy. Original thoughts are maybe a set of SD Full shreds, but yeah, im open to opinion

Re: RGR580 pickups help

Sorry, I just saw the thing about posting this kind of stuff... I play mostly instrumental stuff, the typical Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen and Gilbert stuff, but i do like to play classic rock and hard rock every so often - although tone wise it isnt my priority. I play through a Line 6 DT25, and a Jet City 20H with the matching cab set to clean with a vox ice9 for overdrive or a blackstar distx for distortion.

Re: RGR580 pickups help

Thanks, Ive got it in the RBB finish... im also unsure about the colour scheme, cos i have a fluoro pink dimarzio clip strap on it, and i was thinking of putting neon pink pickups for that gilbert kind of look.... but im not sure if it would end up looking horrible

Re: RGR580 pickups help

its JBB, typo on my behalf... its the same as the one on the left handed RGR580, only in a right handed guitar. What dou you think about the pink, would it end up looking silly?

Aha ok. Well the pink pickups on the gilbert ibby looks good on the blue, so i guess it could work on you guitar as well.

White or creme- Super Distortion bridge, Air Norton single, Air Zone neck.........all will work very well in your mahogany 580.

Re: RGR580 pickups help

I once put SD Custom 5 and Jazz on the RGR580.
it's pretty bright combo.

Re: RGR580 pickups help

I think evos sound fantastic in mahogany, the maple board may brighten it up a little, but if they are cheap it sounds like a great choice.

They sure can hurt if your getting them cheap!!! They may be a bit bright and "sparkly" with your maple neck, but since they're direct mount the mahogany might even that out. I say go for it........ The Evo's are great pickups.
