RGT 220 Z NTF DEFECT IN THE FINGERBOARD??? HELPP!!

Hi guys
I just bought a ibanez RGT 220 NTF (new in theory) the past week and it came with a few scratches along all borders of the fingerboard. (from the 2do to the 23th fret / both edges)

The musicstore say that this is the natural wood finish, but I find it very strange.
someone who has a RGT or someone who knows the subject, can tell me, PLEASEEE, if this is normal.
I am thinking about returning the guitar.

thanks a lot!

Re: RGT 220 Z NTF DEFECT IN THE FINGERBOARD??? HELPP!!

My EBMM BFR has that on the same side, and I always thought it was because I wear a wedding ring, and do play close to the same affected registers like yours pictured. So I tend to think that it's because of some scrapage of my ring finger. I never really paid attention when she came home, however, none of my other guitar are wearing down like that, but then again, not many of the others get the play time like the BFR gets..

Question then to you, do you wear a ring or two?

that's not normal at all, neither on a used guitar.

That's not normal as nuno said. It's a prestige model and it should be top of the line.

What do you mean by "new in theory"? The fingerboard looks dirty, dry and fairly mutch played. I would return it or demand a huge discount.

That's actually more common than you think. It's the rounding of the fretboard edge that is part of "Prestige" finishing, but at the 11th it got away from them. I spend alot of time cleaning up work like the rest of them, but what's at the 11th just went too far. Could have been the rosewood, some of it just refuses to shave smooth and you have to sand. That one I probably hwould ave rejected though. Tough to tell from your pics if it could be blended any better and the rest done to match.

Rich, besides the 11th fret, I'm seeing some of the wear markings along most of that entire side, what is highlighted entirely in the red box. My BFR has that too, but again, perhaps from me playing it to death. I'm curious to know, as also the OP. Is it's possible due to the rosewood having a softer spot there and causing the edges to wear more quickly than the entire board?

There is no wear, it's a new guitar. That's just the way that one was finished.
