Well, if there are actually people who will buy that stuff like a 8,000 dollar pickguard

I would imagine he could just sell a whole guitar for 15 thousand and people would buy it.

Well, an original CA Red '65 Strat is probably worth more than that, but work it out: body: $10K, neck: $10K scratchplate: $2K neckplate: $1K pickups: $5 - 10K... other bits......

So if he gets what he's after, the '65 Strat is gonna return about $35K - what you and I DON'T know is how many of the other bits he's got (I confess I haven't checked out his store here, so maybe he's got the lot!) - but any vintage Fender is worth a lot less when bits are non-original, so maybe this is the most logical way to sell it.

Mind you it reminds of the Chinese trade in human organs more than anything else...........

Oh, yeah, Andy's guitar loft SOLD a pair of original Gibson PAFs for $9000USD - sounds like a lot, but if you had a '57 Les Paul that was all original save the pickups, they'd add a LOT more than $9K to the value of the guitar, so there is a perverse logic to it all........

Our local vintage guitar dealer has a '58 Strat for $89 900 AUD - do the maths - that CA Red body isn't THAT expensive!

The only thing of course is that it is almost impossible to tell whether the CA Red is original, or a nice refin. If it's a refin (and the primer/filler under the neckplate doesn't look quite right to me), the body is probably worth $1500 - $2000.

Big difference!

Well, when compared to that it's not.

I'd be willing to bet that it is refinished, though. For being 42 years old, that body looks awfully shiny and new.

Re: This is ridiculous............

As I said, if it has been refinished, the seller is asking probably 4-5 times what the body is worth, and unfortunately without a lot of very specific pics, it's almost impossible to tell - what a gamble!

That is amazing. What is the deal with these things? Do they really sound that good?

And 500 dollars for a set of knobs?!
Also this: "Polystyrene, commonly referred to as bakelite"?
