Rubber/sponge under prestige v pickups

Hi everyone. Just wondering if the rubber/sponge thing under the v7 and v8 pickups makes a difference if I take it off?. I recently installed dimarzio pickups and didn't stick the rubber/sponge thing from the v pickups, sounded great!, would it make a difference if I had it on tho?

It helps to reduce a bit of noise. I think you'll find that if you tap the body somewhere with your finger, you'll hear it through your amp if you're using a bit of gain.
It also pushes the pickups up a bit, like the springs on a ring mounted pickup.

Yep, strickly to reduce vibration in the pickup. Fender uses surgical tubing instead of springs when they mount the pickups. Works pretty well. The issue with the sponge is that it won't allow you to lower the pickups very far. A good alternative is cotton balls as they will give a bit more.
