RX series

This is my take on this......
They are solid wood bodied, but cheap in construction. I was amazed how crappy the 1 I worked on today was.

I am a tried and true Ibanez guy, but this axe was horrible.

The neck pocket was 3/16ths oversized. I was like " wtf?! I shimmed it and got the action to 1/16th.... shimmed the pocket to make it true (correct).

I had to charge this poor guy 3 hrs labor on a chunk of firewood.
This is the 1st time Ive been ashamed of Ibanez.

Re: RX series

It's an RX series. They're starters for people that don't know better. I had one of the older RX20L's from 95, and that was made of laminated maple and alder. That was a piece. But it was my first guitar, so I did what any 15 year old would do. I covered it in stickers, drilled random little holes in it, and treated it like crap. I than moved onto a 470L in 99. I didn't know there were other, better lefty models at the time. It's unfortunate, but lot's of the entry levels are like that. My friends RX40 was just as bad, and his was the "better" model. Hopefully you made some sound suggestions as to where he should go with his next Ibanez purchase.

Re: RX series

i have a rx350, and it's put together fine. still, the two digit rx models do look pretty shoddy.

Re: RX series

I have an RX 170. I got it in 95 or 96. It was one of the last ones made from real wood. It has a transparent red finish and maple fret board. It is a pretty solid guitar. I don't play it much anymore, but I played the hell out of it for years.

Re: RX series

He was overjoyed how much better it played. I should be happy about that, but that neck pocket really rubbed me the wrong way. I also suggested he trade up to an RG3xx or higher when he's ready. I have to hand it to him. He ended up paying the bill without hesitation (even though IMO it was $45 more than the guitar was worth). He must love that thing.
