I started looking/reading from the bottom up. Saw $1300/best offer and had a good double-take wtf?!

Re: The S series guitar thread.

ashbass: But it's NEAR MINT!

Levi79: I couldn't seem to find anything out there about it. Some models that were close but with newer trems.
Still... nothing with that weird copper finish. I remember there being a similar purple one in the store at the time. I picked the copper as the less of two evils. Not to dig on the guitar. I've always enjoyed playing it. Just that it looks like it escaped the factory minutes before someone walked in and said "What're ya doin' that for?".
Thought there might be a story behind it.

Okay, well I'm no expert but around 1998-2001 (roughly) Ibanez started making guitars and different models in Korea and started making new trems a few years later. Your guitar was most likely made in this period, so that explains the scarcity of information.

Re: The S series guitar thread.

Greetings fellow S owners.

Does anyone here still have stock Sabres? I want to know what capacitor you have.

You can simply look at the ibanez support wiring page for your
request. Otherwise, stock S series have 330pF in the volume
and 0.022uF in the tone.

My guitar is an 89 model, unfortunately they don't have it there.

So a stock S should have 2 capacitors? Is there also a resistor? After I got my pups changed in a store, I can only see 1 small capacitor now. Hmmm....

Oh, yes it's true.
Yes, 2 caps. One for the tone and one for the volume. The one in the
volume is used for high pass when you turn down the pot. This prevent
the high frequency cut and the darken sound.
Pots are the resistors and they do the filter circuit with the caps.

Maybe you have the cap only in the tone control. Someone don't use a cap
in the volume because they think it change the tone of the pickups.

Re: The S series guitar thread.

Here's mine 1991 S540LTD SOL, guitar is in dead mint condition! Frets have no wear, neck is PERFECT, tha action is very, very low (and no fret buzz), and body has no scratches at all!

Of course, it is Japan made. Only Japan made Ibanez guitars work for me. It's my fourth MIJ Ibanez, previously had 1990 RG570 purple neon, 1990 RG550 black and I still have 1990 JEM77FP (this one's a keeper!) along with Blade RH4 standard (hand made in Japan). When I look at that S I realize how little it takes for an instrument to be stunningly beautiful, no finish at all, no fancy binding, just pure wood.
Hoseki likes this.

Re: The S series guitar thread.

That's a sweet looking guitar. I've always dug the oil finished S's with black hardware.
