SC and SZ weight

How is the weight of the SC and SZ models compared to the weight of the S models?

The SC and SA models are a little heavier because the bodies are a little more beefy than the S models which are tapered on the top and the back. (The SA models are only tapered on the top and mildly contoured on the back.)

The SZ is very thick and heavy in comparison. It's barely even related to the S series, in my opinion.

The two SC620s I've had were/are the lightest guitars I've owned, at 6.25 and 6.4 lbs. Neither 540 sabre was within a half pound of this. Now, this was because of the lighter (non-edge) bridge on the SCs, but I definitely wouldn't say they're heavier, and they were tapered the same way.

The SAs, OK. SZs, sure. But SC620s & SC420s are some seriously light & comfy rides.

My SCs are nice and light. Very comfy guitars.

The SZs I have tried out are all too heavy and bulky for what I expect in an S guitar model.

I'd rather compare my SZ's weight to that of a LesPaul than that of an ordinary S.

SZ - Les Paul weight????

I own a SZ and I think it's exremely light. Les Pauls are monsters and I don't think there even close to the SZ weight; my RG570 is heavier than the SZ. I think the RG / Les Paul weight is closer. S guitars are light, but so is the SZ in comparison. It all depends on trying them out at your local music store and making a decision. Good Luck.

I can't comment about the SZ's weight, although considering construction and body material, it's built like a Paul. Maybe the choice of wood's used on guitars such as these Korean ones are a little lighter, they cost less.

As for RG's. I've had many and most were pretty lightweight. Never even close to most Pauls Ive picked up. (Not mentioning epiphones, same factoring as SZ's, lighter wood cost less).

I do think though that Floyds weigh a ton. Both RG's I have now are fixed bridges, and both are pretty light. My RG7620 had good weight. But then your talking a bigger, heavier neck and body.

Did a quick weigh-in on 3 of my electrics:

SC1620- 6.5lbs
Jem77BFP- 7.5lbs
RGT3120- 8.5lbs

Hopefully, that info can give you an idea of relative weight.

-Ben

also- I had to edit this in out of my own curiosity: my PGM10th weighs the same as my SC1620. Thought so!
