SCA220 S-Classic

So I was looking at some of these on e bay, but I can't really find much information on them, as they are discontinued.

So basically what I was wondering is: when were they discontinued, and is the neck a wizard2 or not? Also, feedback from anybody who has played one would be awesome.

Thanks a ton, and yes, I did just join to ask this question.

why is the auction site name censored?

Re: SCA220 S-Classic

If you look at the SZ and SCA, they are very similar. They both have the 25.1 scale, and are Mahogany bodied. Only difference is the neck joint (SZ=set in neck, SCA=bolt on). The neck profile I believe, is an SC/SCA (can't remember).

Oh, and e-bay is censored because of it's reputation. That's why most people here would refer it to as "evilbay".

Re: SCA220 S-Classic

I think they were discontinued in 2002 or 2003. The neck is pretty thick, kind of like a strat. And the radius of curvature of the fretboard is 12". Like Kamikaze said, the scale length is 25.1". The stock pickups (Ibanez V6) are okay. They're a little bit hotter than medium output, and are kind of bright. They're almost a little brittle sounding. Overall it's a decent guitar, since it's made in Japan (check the headstock).

Re: SCA220 S-Classic

Eh, I thought the pickups were a V1 and V2. The sound of these pickups sound somewhat like PAFs when used in a Mahogany body. By the way, the SCA620 is simply GORGEOUS.

The V1 and V2 are in the SC420 and (I think) the SC620. The V6 pickups were not used in many guitars. They're basically medium output ceramics. The V1 and V2 have Alnico magnets. By the way, the series is SCA220, SC420, and SC620. There is no SCA620. And yes, the SC620 is beautiful!

Re: SCA220 S-Classic

Oops, my mistake. I got confused.

I saw a 220 on e-bay and the seller stated that it was the V1 and V2 combo. What's wierder is that the pickups actually had V1/V2 written on them. Strange huh?

Re: SCA220 S-Classic

Yeah, SC620 (and SC1620, basically the same guitar) use the V1 and V2. Though often slammed, I think these pickups are pretty good in that guitar. I love mine; they never shoulda ditched that model...

Re: SCA220 S-Classic

thanks so much. you guys are awesome.

I've read that this series has a 5-way switch, does anyone know what these would activate (auto coil tap or PRS style maybe)

Re: SCA220 S-Classic

Neck bucker, neck bucker in parallel, outer coils, inner coils, Bridge bucker.

The SC (and I THINK the SCA) were thinner than the SZ, which are going for the PRS/Paul crowd. My SC620 is THIN and LIGHT (6.25 lbs!)

Re: SCA220 S-Classic

The pickup selector on my SCA220 does:

N hum, one coil of N, N+B full hum, inner coils, B hum

See the catalog page hosted on Rich's site:

http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/2002/p48.jpg

Note that the switching is wrong there for the SCA, since the V6 pickup is only 3-conductor (hence it can't do parallel mode). I believe it's correct for the regular SC's.

I've always liked the looks of the S-Classic.
