Second stock on Ibanez rules

Rich has a couple rg655 that are labeled second stock, I don't understand what this means. tHE 655 is still on the Ibanez site... or is it some flaw with the guitar?

Re: Second stock on Ibanez rules

Finish flaws were noted by quality control as marked on the diagram in the last photo. The guitar gets marked with an 'S' on the back of the headstock to indicate the guitar has a minor flaw that 'usually' doesn't affect playability. These are then sometimes made available at discount and if it doesn't bother you as a buyer you can pick up a bargain.

His second stock listings generally detail exactly what the issues are with those guitars.

Re: Second stock on Ibanez rules

If you can live with the S on the back you can usually get a great guitar for a somewhat lower price and with a Rich Harris setup it might be better than a "perfect" model you'd buy from a big dealer.

Re: Second stock on Ibanez rules

He is VERY detailed oriented and specific in each listing type, second, or otherwise. Read carefully, and make an informed decision. If you choose upgraded service levels, I will tell you that it is worth ever single penny and more - MUCH more.

Servicing a bolt on super strat is one thing. Many techs can get the basics covered. Specializing in Ibanez is a completely different matter. If you want that last 20% of perfect neck angle, string radius, pocket alignment, frets, you need someone who knows this brand inside and out, with all it's little quirks, and can make it BETTER than from the manufacturer.

Re: Second stock on Ibanez rules

I have 2 more, just no time to get them listed.

Those necks have been common the last few years, but I don't think anybody knows how to sight a neck. As many as I've rejected you'd think this board would be littered with threads about it from players buying them. But try and find one.

Re: Second stock on Ibanez rules

rich why would you take 3 RG655 seconds with bad necks? In terms of sighting them how are you doing that.

Re: Second stock on Ibanez rules

I have 2 more I haven't even looked at. The last 3 I sold were all good.

Seconds you have absolutely no choice, you don't get to see, you don't get to reject. If I know they need a fret level that's the only way I sell them.

I do have 3 firsts in stock of course.

Pick the guitar up point the headstock at a light and look down the side of the neck from behind the bridge? Isn't that the only way to sight a neck?

Re: Second stock on Ibanez rules

Hoshino has trained their techs to check from the headstock end, which I've always told them, they can't see what's going on with the first 2 frets in relation to the rest because the nut is in the way.

Re: Second stock on Ibanez rules

Thx, interesting. Rich has Hosh USA ever broached the subject of getting a PLEK. Would do wonders for diagnostic alone. What a no-brainer and improvement to customer service it would provide.

Sorta surprising you cant inspect/reject a Second as a dealer taking that risk/investment.

Re: Second stock on Ibanez rules

Not surprising in the least. The only time they ever did anything remote was when they closed out the BRMR's that were in the tech bins waiting for bodies. They took pictures and descriptions of the problems of each [and that was about 50] and divided the lot up between the reps. Of course they were at closeout and not second pricing also.

They want those guitars going out the door once. No returns, no complaints, take it or leave it. To me, I can fix anything. My dad has an awesome set of tools. [Spicoli, 1982]
