Serial number help ? RG270 ?

Im looking at buying a super cheap RG and turning it in to a 80's shred machine. I will be refinishing it upgrading the pups, the trem, scalloping frets 21-24 etc. but i'm wanting to make sure the rg i get starts out with a basswood body as i know some of the cheaper RG's had an mdf style material for the bodies.

The serial number is S4072187, from the information i read on the ibanez wiki page that makes it a Korean built guitar from July 94 ? Am i correct in thinking that ? I believe it is a RG270 as it has the single locking trem. Although there is no model number on the back of the headstock, is this fairly common with some of the cheaper guitars from this time and place ?

Any help appreciated,

Thanks

Pass on the axe. Not a platform to invest in to begin with, never mind modify Save for a cheap RG5xx from that era or earlier is my advice.

Really how come ? Its literally going to be a body and neck blank. Changing all the hardware the pickups, the electronics will probably re fret with better fret wire too. Seems a little over the top to spend much more on a guitar to do all this work to. what about a made in japan rg370 theres one of them for sale near me at a reasonable price ?

You're doing all the work yourself? That changes things a little because you probably don't need a "refret" on many used RG5xx. I also figure $150 (maybe less) for an OFR replacement and possibly having to modifying the route to accept an OFR trem. MIJ > MIK

As long as the neck has no twist or issues [they are built fast and wet] using the bones for a project should be fine as long as you're replacing everything, but maybe the tuners which don't matter behind the locking nut.

Re: Serial number help ?

Thanks for the help. The other option i've been offered is what i believe is a RG570. The serial number is F326443. From what i've seen on the ibanez wiki pages this year was only available in japan and featured V1/S1/V2 pickups, but this one has V7/S1/V8. Do you think it is still genuine ? Could it just be a 93 neck on a later body ?

Ive attached a couple of pictures so hopefully someone might shed more light on it !

Yes, proceed. You can see this in the 97-2002 USA Ibanez catalogs (in 2003 replaced with the 1570 & EdgePro)
