Question SG..... Ibanez???

hi friends...

I just got a SG guitar. I ussually don't like the SG guitars, but this one looks different and unusual to others. and not much money, so I bought it.

the guitar is like an Ibanez 2394 (1974):

But mine is slightly different in some ways...

the natural finish of the headstock (no black), no logo, the inlays size, the truss rod cover size, the shape of pickguard is a veeery little different.
also the tuners say 'Made in Germany'... I don't know if the Ibanez 2394 has these tuners, but I suppose that they were changed becouse the screws of them are like new.

here some pics:

Someone of you have a original Ibanez 2394 and can tell me if the guitar is Ibanez brand?
even if you haven't a guitar like this, any help or opinion is well come!!!
what do you think friends?

cheers!
dani.

Re: SG..... Ibanez???

Don't know much about the guitar I'm afraid but those tuners are Schallers and have maybe been put on as an upgrade.

Dani, go and ask the guys at www.ibanezcollectors.com - that's the Community for the vintage Ibbies and relative brands.

Re: SG..... Ibanez???

That's not an Ibanez 2394. The headstock makes me think it may be a Memphis, which would have been made in the same factory. I would also walk it over to Ibanezcollectors.com, great bunch of vintage Ibanez guys over there.

The neckplate looks the same as the Aria's from that age too which I believe were also built in the same factory but not 100% sure. I like the maple on the SG though. I bet its a player!

Re: SG..... Ibanez???

Any one else notice the G string tuner is a little askew? Most certainly an upgrade.

Re: SG..... Ibanez???

Also looking at where the neck bolts on, you can see a screw hole and a lightness of the wood where it was obviously unexposed on another guitar. So i don't think the tuners are just an upgrade i think the whole guitar was someone's project that they built. Unless of coarse that was a previous place for where another strap button used to be........ It might also be worth taking the pickguard off to see if there is a manufacturer's name under the pickups?

Either way if you like it then that is all that counts, how does it sound?

Re: SG..... Ibanez???

There was a strap pin put in the neck, certainly. This might be fairly head heavy. And the tuners are definitely recent aftermarket upgrades.

Re: SG..... Ibanez???

thanks guys for your help...
before make these pics, I removed all parts for cleaning, and I was looking for names or incriptions but.... no name or inscription anywhere ... as you can see, only the neckplate and tuners have it.

the tuners may be a "recent" replacement. I mean... they don't look as old as the guitar. but maybe I'm wrong.

the body is made of one piece of ash... heavy ash.

well, I'll keep trying to determine the brand and model of the guitar. but I think that it will be difficult .

(sorry my english)
