Question Shipping costs for guitar: Rip-off or appropriate?

I recently purchased a Fender Esquire Custom GT from e-Bay.
Now, I'm from Germany and the guitar will be sent from USA. It comes in a hard shell case.

The seller claims that shipping costs would be USD 114,50 via USPS Priority Mail International, which would equal a total weight of 30 pounds.

Do you think this is realistic? I've owned a Custom GT in the past and it's a very light guitar, maybe 8 pounds... I don't know, could the case + packaging be about 20 pounds?

Regards

Yes, 30 lbs with guitar, case and packing is about right. Also, a guitar box is considered oversized by some shipping companies so dimensional weight comes into play.

Ask the seller how much the entire package weighs then weigh when you get it. Also, some sellers will not weight the actual package themselves so they over estimate the weight. Personally, I'd rather make the buyer wait an extra day just so I can get it packed and weigh it myself just to be fair to them and to me.

Doesnt seem too bad. I shipped guitars to Europe before and it was over $100 every time.

No, it does not weigh 30 Pounds, but the shipping co is charging dimensional weight. It probably only weighs 10 pounds, but the large package size is where the cost is. 114 usd to Germany seems OK, it is traveling 1/3 the way around the world.

I've got quite a few from the US, I'm in Ireland, and that price is on the nose.

Fedex is about $400 to Ireland, so I'd stick with USPS !

Ha $100 USD, you should be thanking god your not living in Australia. To ship a guitar anywhere in the world you will be looking at $450 USD and thats just an estimate. I reckon even more...
