Shipping to Japan

Okay, I got my quote back from the Carvin dealer over here and the cost of the guitar through the dealer is 189,000 yen. That doesn't take into account that as of April 1, the consumption tax will be going from 5% to 8% over here (which means the guitar would cost over 200,000 yen). When I ran the guitar I'm thinking of getting through Carvin's guitar builder on the U.S. Carvin site while on skype with my mother, the cost was under $1200 (meaning the guitar would only cost around 125,000 yen at most).

Now here's my question: If I asked my mother to order the guitar in the US and she ships it to me, how much could that cost? If possible, I'd like to cut costs as much as I can in order to purchase the guitar sooner and if I can send it for cheap (and avoid customs taxes or whatever because it would be labeled birthday present or something), I want to cut as many costs as I can. If anyone knows, that would help soooooo much.

Re: Shipping to Japan

Ship via USPS and use an online calculator to check on what taxes would run you

Re: Shipping to Japan

You may also have to add customs in japan.
I'm from Europe, almost everytime I order something from the US get charged a good 15%.

I checked into the shipping after this post and it turns out that for me to get the Carvin I want wouldnt cost much more than if I had it sent to family in the US and shipped here versus the Japanese dealer.
