Should I sell/trade my JEM7DBK for a RG550RFR reissue?

So, first off, let me start that one of my first really good guitars was a Road Flare Red RG550 (stupid me for selling it a number of years back), so I have a bit of affection for the guitar. I'd love to get a reissue, but man, the prices are way higher than they should be, plus I've actually got a couple of beater RG550's already. I've also got a JEM7DBK (a bit of a beater as well) that I don't really play much. In fact, I don't really play any of those guitars much. I typically reach for my Kramer Music Yo LP copies as I don't really use tremolo's much anymore.

Now, I know the thing to say is why even get a reissue RG550 if I don't play the ones I have? As mentioned, it's mostly an affection for the guitar. I do like the way the JEM feels and plays (despite not playing it much). Oh, and as for the condition, well I bought them that way. I'm actually quite good to my guitars. The only one I've beat up a bit myself is an old Kramer parts guitar (Baretta neck/Focus body) and that guitar is relicing on it's own (paint finish is cracking).

I think the prices of the 550 20th's are way too high and I really like 7DBK's.

But face it you're a gasaholic - practice more !!!

The USA price is very good but look at the UK price -- twice as much as the originals. Plenty of other countries are also paying loads for these guitars too. How anyone in the USA can complain at the price of the RG 20th is mind boggling, and some people really are complaining. My original 550 was £400. If I'd bought the 20th here I would have paid £849. That's MORE than twice the price. Thankfully I had enough brain cells to buy one from Rich.

I'd say you have a bad case of GAS ....

However I would not suggest seeking help as someone else suggested. GAS is fun

Yeah, sometimes it's gotta be done. I sold my RG3120 to pay for mine. Some people thought it was a bad move, but I say no freakin' way! I can get an RG3120 any time, they are much more common than the RG 20th. I'm happy I sold the 3120. I am even happier that the 550 is coming soon. Can't wait for this bad boy.

Cool Re: Should I sell/trade my JEM7DBK for a RG550RFR reissue?

If he is giving you that case and the hand tags and all the works and the RG20TH is either RFR or DY then I'd go for it!!!

Re: Should I sell/trade my JEM7DBK for a RG550RFR reissue?

I'd say go for it too!!

You are very fortunate to be in a position (with being on forums) of knowing about these guitars before their release and being able to get yourself one now.
There will be people who will join Jemsite say six months up the track and see us all raving about these guitars, and they will be kicking themselves for missing the boat and not knowing/ being around for it's release, or having too pay more than the RRP price to acquire one.
I've seen this type of thing happen before with other limited edition stuff too!

If you truly find after getting one that you really don't play it, you always have the option of selling it.

I say go for it. Go and get the RG550 RFR. Much cooler than the JEM7DBK in my opinion.
