Should I swap a J Custom for a JPM4

Hey guys..
might be swapping a 1680AM J Custom for a JPM4

Both in similar condition so its a straight swap. I didn't pay much for the J Custom, and because I own a few j Customs id like to own a signature Ibanez model..

Any thoughts ??

If it's what you want then by all means go for it. Would I do that swap...? No.

I wouldn't. IMO the 1680AM is a lot classier than a JPM4.
Like IbanezDaemon said, if that's what you want go for it.

If it were any one other than a JPM4 I'd go for it.

i would never do that.
I'd keep any J custom rather than a JPM.

If it were a P1,2,3 or a 90th; I'd be all over it........ I'm not a fan of the camo P4 though. I'd have to pass on it. If you have not sold it yet, what about trading your new RG-paint..

Re: Should I swap a J Custom for a JPM4

Because that flat camo graphic on the JPM4 is awful. That's my reason.

For obvious reasons, the JPM90thHAM is my favorite, followed by the original JPM100, followed by the P3. I'm not a huge fan of the pastels used on the P2 and think that the camo is absolutely awful on the P4.

Re: Should I swap a J Custom for a JPM4

Well for me the Coffee table top on the J Custom is more Awful, then the camo. in the end im not really interested in either of the 2 guitars, im after resale value.

So lets talk monetary terms... which could I sell for the highest price, and which would keep its value down the track if I dont sell them..

My thoughts are that signature series guitars will hold its value better and maye increase over time..

How much do you guys think the J Custom is worth, in near mint condition which is what it is.

Re: Should I swap a J Custom for a JPM4

JPM100P4's are really not worth much. Nobody wants them. They might be worth something way down the road, but they aren't worth anything these days. People just absolutely don't like the camo.

Re: Should I swap a J Custom for a JPM4

I love the natural finish of any kind of flame top. There are no two alike and thus each one is unique. Everyone has their preference.

The Camo JPM is a nice guitar but out of all of them, that finish is the least desirable to me.

Re: Should I swap a J Custom for a JPM4

I have my own reasons for that :
1. I agree the P4 is awful, 90HAM is something, but not this one..
2. I won't pay premium price on the JPM mdl ( except the 90HAM), it's simply RG with petrucci name on it, and I don't do signature guitar.
3. If I were about to do something stupid with JPM, it will reduce the resale price. Because signature guitar meant to be keep it the way it's born. I like modifying guitars...so not a chance.
4. Flame top so much nicer than P4 camo, so J custom wins.

Re: Should I swap a J Custom for a JPM4

I'd never trade a J. Custom for a P4. First of all, the P4 is ugly as all hell. What possessed them to come up with that finish???? And, secondly, the Petrucci models are really nothing more than hyped-up RG550's, but with better pickups and a slightly different neck.

Keep the J. Custom.
