Should my studs do this?

Hey everyone,
I took the Edge Pro trem out of my RG2550EX the other day (using Rich's method of keeping the strings on, of course) to tighten the nut on the arm holder, and noticed that the studs were able to move a tiny bit without the trem installed. I don't mean that the anchors are moving, but the studs themselves do not stay completely still. Is this supposed to happen? The locking studs on my RG570 are completely rigid when the trem is removed, so does this mean my studs are pushing on the wood and widening the holes, or is it just the nature of studs that don't lock?

Re: Should my studs do this?

That's just the result of the non-locking studs - without the forward-bearing pressure of the bridge under string and spring tension, they're free to be what they are; essentially a fancy nut and bolt, where the 'nut' is buried in the guitar body =]

On guitars that I work on that don't have studs that lock, I always put some medium tack tape onto the top of them, attaching to some feature on the instrument that won't be harmful, but will keep the studs in position during work.

Sounds good...that's what I was assuming but just wanted to be sure.
