size matters - but can electronics compensate?

hey folks. *

the only guitar i've ever owned is a Hohner. *all i know about it is its serial number (76974) and that my dad bought it in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the late 1970's (its in pretty good condition, i think :loco. *it also fits snuggly in my dad's old case for his gibson he played in high school. *

aside from its origins being a complete mystery to me, it weighs a ton!! *but consequently, its got GREAT tone. *i was looking around the ibanez website again at the S series guitars, and they're all pretty thin. *i know its obviously going to lower its resonant quality, as its body will be less massive. *but it won't really keep me from getting one... *i could really use a lighter guitar to save on my shoulder!!

i was wondering, what electronics/accessories are aimed at compensating drawbacks like that? *i really love the tone i get now, but some days i can only jam for about 3 hours before it gets unbearable, and i have to sit down. *

electronics i currently use only includes an ART XtremePlus floor unit, and a little Crate 15W amp (GX-15). *and i know a nicer amp will help *8-). *

thanks,
-leon

if you like your guitar, i'd reccomend getting a really wide strap. (unless of course you already have one)

I think the "heavier is better" and "big is better" are myths. *The Sabres have a wonderful tone, IMO, and they are neither. *Steinbergers and Parkers can sound great, too, and they're tiny and light.

Some of the worst sounds I've gotten were from a solid maple full size strat body. *Big, heavy, and sounded like crap.

So, don't go by "rules" - just try out individual guitars that catch your fancy, and buy the one(s) that "speak to you".

Duh... . I think you should ask yourself whatīs more important. A super heavy guitar might sound good, but itīs not the only issue to consider. Whatīs more important to you, sound, weight, looks? I donīt know, just ask yourself.
