Snakeskin RG.... :-)

Just picked this up off of ****...

Already have plans for it. First is to nail a flush mount floyd in it. What is a 80's guitar without a floyd??? :-)

Anyone know anyone who does quality work of this sort?

thanks
Dave

A good guitar. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Seriously though, having to deal with the skin on there is going to make putting a trem on it a little more tricky. You should think twice about doing it.

Yeah, I know it will be a pain, but I just gosta have it!!! LOL

Since I'm going to flush mount it the front SHOULD stay in pretty good shape. well, hopefully at least. :-)

looks really nice! Very 80s!

i was thinking about getting a blank RG body and covering it in tolex snakeskin. Kinda similar to that actually.

Re: Snakeskin RG.... :-)

Dee, actually that's a painted or printed pattern, not real skin.

The one I got is real python. Got it for a song so I'm not too worried about tossing it up. LOL.

Oh sh*t! For real? I didn't know. That's weird man, doesn't it dampen the tone quite a bit?

Re: Snakeskin RG.... :-)

Not sure. All I know is that Warren Demartini used in on Ratts stuff and it sounded ok. I think he used his Performance Snakeskin on Lay it down and for me that is THE recorded marshall tone... :-) Figured I'd give it a shot...

The guy that did this had an add on here the other day for it before he put it on the bay. It's very cool

I wouldn't put a floyd on that thing. You're going to change the way it sounds considerably if you do so. However, since it's your guitar, do as you please, just don't come here and complain like AA when you damage it.

When you get down to it, its an RG body. Most RG bodies have edges whacked out of them so if it alters the tone, so be it. I like the sound of all my RG's with edges in them so it should be good. 20 years ago I did this to a bunch of bodies and the tone change was negligible. I'm not worried at all.

All I was looking for is the name of a good luthier to do the work. That's all.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right. All I really bought this for was the body and the cover job. To get one done these days is double the price that I got it for and from the pics he had up it looks like a pretty good job.

I got a quote of 3 grand to have a guitar made covered in Python. I think I'll save a buck or two going this way...
