So I played a 25th anniversary RG today

The pink one

Super nice. I loved the neck, and even after playing for an hour (after not having played for years) my hand didn't get sore at all.

Unfortunately, I felt like I'm not good enough to be playing that guitar. A pink Ibanez says "watch out, I can shred!" except I cannot shred. It's too nice for a noob like me

In all seriousness, I was wondering if it would be possible to "build" that guitar for less than the $899 sticker price. I assume the body is a normal RG body. The neck was Wizard, a Zero Edge II tremelo (I've heard nothing but bad things about the IIIs... are the IIs better?), and whatever pickups it comes with.

Made in Indonesia.

Could one buy a cheaper RG and swap out the components and end up with the same guitar? "Anniversary" models of things always have a built in premium in their price.

Of course, you wouldn't have the same color and inlays...

There are so many RG models!

What is the difference between the 25th anniversary's "Wizard Premium" neck and the RG450MDX's "Wizard III" neck?

Seems they have the same tremolo.

Is the RG450MDX an older model? I don't see it on Ibanez's website anymore.

Buy a used Rg570 or Rg550 with the edge tremolo. You can find a nice one for around 4-500usd. It's not the same guitar but you will have a better one for a lower price.

Re: So I played a 25h anniversary RG today

Recieved mine from my local dealer, Body is clean, no black dots! The trem cavity is paint boogered (along the walls) and the neck screw holes are also, not as nicely finished as my prestige, but this neck kicks that necks ass! but other than that THIS THING ROCKS PERIOD! I really like the Pups, the bridge is hot. over all best purchase I have made in a while. It was 850.00 out the door with a Ibanez m100c hard shell case, Also came with a Premimum Multi tool, Premimum Owners man, tiny allen wrench and tags.

The necks are two compleatly different animals, I own the 25th and the RG350mye, also a RG1570 prestige.
The 25th has the nicest neck, thin/fast.
the prestige neck is compairable to the 25th but a tad thicker over all, 1mm differance, if my memory serves me correct, the fret ends are nicer on the premimum.
the mye is by far the tickest, but not bad or base ball bat style by any means.
Sebastin and I talked about this a few times now, the RG350/450's are the best bang for the buck on the market period!
if you look around you will find them for far less than the 425.00 advertized price. I got my MYE for 325.00 new.

Re: So I played a 25h anniversary RG today

Although ive had no complaints from the many "regular" Indo Ibbys ive had, The Premiums are different from regular Indo models. Definatley a few notches above. I also played the 25th RG (also the pink one) and loved it and like you I thought im not fast enough for this baby....i still may end up getting one cause there soooo cool.

I had a quick play with one today, and it was very nice. Fret work was fantastic, neck felt good, and action just right. Sounded great acoustically too.

It is a new model, it is not on the Ibanez site.
Check Musicians Friend, they have it.

Thats debatable. VERY debatable. The premiums are really, really good, and I own a 550 that gets absolutely smoked by every premium I've tried.

I disagree strongly.
My '01 RG570 still smokes every Premium I've played.
Different strikes I suppose.
And bubinga super wizard can't be touched either IMO.

They are nice necks.
You should try a JEM7DBK neck sometime.
It's the only one of it's kind.
It's very similar, just thinner.

Um, no. The jem necks are thicker than wizards.

You've never played a DBK then.

They have a very thin Wizard neck, not a typical Jem neck.

I almost bought one years ago for that very reason.
