So...I want an RG550 20th Anniversary Reissue but...

Hey guys...I'm new around here. Hope I'm posting in the right place. I've got a Gibson SG and an Agile LP style...so now I need an Ibanez to complete the perfect trifecta lol. To be honest...I don't know much about Ibanez and the models they have. I don't know much about tremelos either...

I am looking for a sweet "shred" guitar with a tremelo that stays in tune. I love the 20th Anniversary RG550 reissue (The red/orange is sweeeeet) and would love to get my hands on one but obv they don't make them anymore.

What would be comparable to this guitar/what is in my price range of up to $700 or so that would be what I'm looking for?

Thanks in advance!

The reisssues are nice but there are very few that sell for $700 and under. For that price, you can get an original Rg770 and those have better features. Or you can save a few hundred bills and get an original 550 or 570. That's my recommendation. Hope it helps

Since I don't know what I'm doing....can you list the prices I should pay for those models in decent shape?

I know the 550s go for more but if I found one that is the red/orange and pretty flawless then I'd stretch and pay more.

Re: So...I want an RG550 20th Anniversary Reissue but...

stay away from the originals they have inferior made necks, thin and prone to warping with abuse, the trem inserts get loose because old basswood, and the new ones are worth the money. i got my dy reissue for 750.00 used, but i seen one on the bay go for 1400 yesterday 320548420010.

so the deals are out there i would only pay 750.00 for either color except black its only worth 5 to 6 hundred. also there have been some with dimarzio pups on here go for under 800.00. if you had the original from day one and it wasnt abused i'd say go for it but a 20 year old abused rg550 is not worth a nickel.

I have 2 rg550's one from 1987, my main... and a 98 black with mirrored pickguard. its mint, and I would consider selling it, but not for cheap.

andrewsfury is right on...spent the 80's at the local music store...saw it all ampeg sc140c stacks, desert yellow rg's, etc...fell in love with a grape ice rg, came in w/ a really f'up ed neck...frets were rising out, warped , had to buy a 4 x 12 cab instead...go newer, the necks are way better...just my 2 cents

Saw an 80's one DEAD MINT at a store in Chicago just today, for around $800. Unbelievable deal. Search out JCGuitars and call the guy, tell him I sent you.

Otherwise just find an old RG550. If color is the dealbreaker, you could probably find one in rough shape and have it refinished for a total cost of $800 or less.

Re: So...I want an RG550 20th Anniversary Reissue but...

Despite what some folks say, go with an original RG-550 or RG-570. They're down right FANASTIC! I've owned several since 1987, and never had a problem with neck warping or loose stud inserts--and I've moved them all across the planet several times over the past 20 years. I've got a 1992 RG-570 that I'll be listing in the classifieds soon...
