Re: Soft fret wire
When I got my 1527M about a month ago... fresh from the factory... the fretwire was somewhat "rough." In other words, the frets didn't have a slick, mirror polish and instead showed normal "fresh off the assembly line" roughness. These appear as faint little lines in the frets that run the same direction as your strings (as opposed to across the frets, in the direction you would bend a note).
So, I did what I normally do to brand new guitars and polished them up. I hit them with Micromesh papers... #800 then #1000. Lastly, I hit them with #0000 steel wool. This removed the roughness and brought them to a mirror shine.
If yours came with similar "rough" frets, and you didn't buff those out first, your frets could pit and scratch as you fret and bend strings. On the other hand, when frets are highly polished, they're less prone (I think) to premature pitting and wear.
