The headstock on the Stef Carpenter one doubles as a boat paddle . . .

Actually, ESP confirmed that the scale length is 27".

And the ESP SC8 is my current dream guitar...

How much are the ESP SC7s?

Re: some new 8 strings coming up

DCGL is quoting the following prices for the LTD 8s:

FM408 - $999
SC608B - $1129

Oh and for those griping about the 25.5" scale on the FM408 consider that it's perfect for using a high A string instead of a low F#.

yep i saw that , i am thinking have a low B and high A , because 25.5 is too short for a low F or whatever , you'd need at least a .72 gauge for it to not feel like a rubber band .
I think the scale thing is a mistake on esp/ltd 's part if they are going for the low tune market

Re: some new 8 strings coming up

I've tried a high A in various gauges on a 25.5 inch RG7620 but couldn't get one to survive more than 30 seconds without snapping. (Tried gauge 9s and also 8s, same result.)

Maybe drop tune everything by 2 frets so the highest string is tuned to G - maybe that would survive?

Re: some new 8 strings coming up

That's what I was thinking man... or at least a high F#, with a low G... that would be interesting.

Re: some new 8 strings coming up

Use some of Gary Goodman's strings. They'll do a high A at 30".

He's over at sevenstring.org

That kind of sucks... but it could be worse, ESP could have used the Ritchie Sambora shape for it:

WTF were they thinking?

Re: some new 8 strings coming up

8s should actually work fine for a high A on a 25.5" scale, or as somebody pointed out there are Gary Goodman's strings.

I actually think the 25.5" is smart, as they've got the Carpenter sigs for the downtuning crowd and the 25.5" for the high tuning crowd and those that are afraid of extended scale for some reason (and yes, they are out there).

As for the Sambora guitar, since it was a sig they were thinking "Yes Mr Sambora, if that's what you want, here you go."
