Some questions before investing in a 7

So im looking at my first 7 string and i've narrowed it down to 2. The rgd2127z or the rg1527z. Neither one of these guitars is available within a hundred miles of here, so I have to order it.

Im concerned about the scale length. I keep 12s on my explorer because floppy strings are a special pet peeve of mine. Will the 25.5 inch scale of the 1527 allow for a snappy low b with the standard .56 gauge string, or is it gonna be loose and sloppier? Would it be better to go with the 26.5 inch scale rgd and tune it to standard? Are there any drawbacks to doing this?

Am I overthinking it?

Re: Some questions before investing in a 7

I think you're overthinking it. I run 9-52s on all my Universes and I don't think they're loose or sloppy. I do run 10-56s on my LP7 because of the shorter scale length.

I don't think you're going to be unhappy if you're keeping it tuned standard. If you're planning on doing any drop-A stuff then you may want to get the longer scale length.

I have 10-54's on my 1527 and there is NO slop at all in standard tuning.
