Exclamation Space Problem with DiMarzio caps in my RG 370DX

Hi. This is my first post on this amazing Forum (forgive me my poor English. I'm a brazilian guy trying to do my best). I'm a fan of Satrini and love it's tone. I have an Ibanez RG 370 DX, with Floyd Rose). I bought the last Satriani's caps (Mo'Joe for the bridge and PAF Joe for the neck, both F-Space). I already came from my luthier and he told me that the Mo'Joe bridge doesn't have the right space. The 6th string is a little bit deslocated from the magnet. The explanation of him is that Satriani uses another type of tremolo bridge wich is narrow than the Edge model.

Guys, it makes sense? If it's correct, there is way to solve this problem?

Thanks a lot,
Andre

Re: Space Problem with DiMarzio caps in my RG 370DX

There are two types of spacing: Standard and F-Spacing. Standard spacing (measured from the center of the 6th string pole to the center of the 1st string pole) is 48mm. F-spacing (for Fender, modern Gibson, and Floyd Rose-equipped bridges) is 51mm. On an RG370DX the bridge pickup should be F-Spaced. It sounds like you need to exchange your standard-spaced Mo'Joe for an F-Spaced Mo'Joe.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Race

The thing to remember though is that F spacing and the like are for the most aesthetic. If it's hard for you to swap the pickups don't worry. Just install them anyway, there won't be any real effect on tone.

Dimarzio recommends using the proper spacing, but as already mentioned, you can still get by without much notice sonically. It would be more cosmetic than anything.

Its worth bearing in mind I disagree on the sonics thing. I noticed output dropping when not over the poles on some pickups i've used over the years. It wasn't fretting out because the volume came BACK when I released the bend.

YMMV, especially if you play with a metric ton of gain, but meh.

Guys, firt of all, thanks for the replies. I didn't make myself clear on the first post. I'm already using the Joe'Moe F-Space. I told luthier to install the pickup and I will test it on Monday. If some get wrong, I will post some pictures to explain "graphically" what I'm tryng to say.

Thanks a lot and have a nice weekend.

So caps, do you mean capacitors? Or pickups?

Well that's exactly what we are talking about in our previous posts, your pickups!
