Stratocaster: Tokai vs ESP vs Edwards vs Fender Japan

I'm considering buying a Japanese Stratocaster. These are the contenders:
* Tokai AST series
* Edwards E-SE series
* ESP E-II Vintage Plus
* Fender Japan STR-ALLVC

Maybe someone have tried them and could tell me how they compare quality-wise to each other? ESP seems to be more expensive than Tokai and Edwards (I know, Edwards are supposedly a lower end ESPs, but in reality some ESP E-II series and Edwards models cost almost the same amount, which means that the same models by each are actually equivalent to each other). How's the quality of woods used, how well have they been dried?

And the second question is: which one of them has a thinner neck? Also, it's unclear what type of neck profile shape Tokais are - C? V?

ESP standard/EII /Edwards all the same quality,same builders,same factory.
1-ESP
2-edwards
3-fender
4-tokai.

That would be my order of preference.

It's interesting that you rate Tokai lower than Fender Japan. Could you please explain why?

Might be, but there are rumours Edwards are made in China and then setup in Japan.

Re: Stratocaster: Tokai vs ESP vs Edwards vs Fender Japan

Had an Edwards Tele and hated it, but plenty of Edwards Les Pauls and thought those were great.

Had and have a bunch of Japanese Fender Teles and I love most of them, surprisingly 4 of them are 62 Custom RIs and they all have very different necks.

I can't speak about the other 2, but after owning a lot of strats, the American Special, which I think replaced the highway 1, was the first one I ever really got along with. It has become my number 1 guitar

You beat me to it. Fujigen makes AMAZING strats and tellies. I told myself that if I ever bought a strat it would be FGN. They are reasonably priced as well, AND they extremely well made. Think Golden era Ibanez RGs or Ss. Low price with EXCELLENT quality. Get a Neo Classic, they are the mid range price point and cheaper than every maker mentioned excerpt Tokai (Tokai isn't bad, but FGN blows them out of the water).

And you forgot FGN. FGN blows away even Fender Japan and Edwards.

I based my answer on the question only,and my preference is not based on quality......they are all great guitars and great value.

Re: Stratocaster: Tokai vs ESP vs Edwards vs Fender Japan

I am pretty sure that the older Fenders like mine were built in Fujigen at the same factory as Ibanez. Don't know about the newer ones...

ESP is nowhere near a good value here, unless you buy one used. They are way too overpriced here.
