Stripped screw threads

Hi guys!

First of all I'm really sorry if I managed to double post this thread. My last thread just disappeared for some reason because of some login issues and I'm not able to find it again.

Anyway, I have a problem with my Ibanez RG2550Z. While adjusting intonation I managed to overtighten two of the screws that hold down the saddle units, resulting in stripping of the screw threads in the bridge plate. This means I cannot set intonation right anymore on two of the strings. I really want to fix this problem. My guitar has an Edge Zero tremolo bridge. What are my options? Do i have to buy a new bridge or can I just buy a new bridge plate? Is the Edge Zero and Edge Zero 2 interchangeable?

All help is appreciated!

Re: Stripped screw threads

IIRC, your best option is to tap the threads to a larger size, but I don't know how much bigger you can go before a set screw diamater will be too big for the saddle to go around it. You can also use a helicoil kit to tap the holes larger, install the helicoil insert, then use the standard size set screw but you'll probably have to grind the bottom of the insert flush to the bottom of the baseplate.

Thanks! I might give it a try myself or I'll hand it over to my luthier. I'm not sure how much room there is for a bigger hole, but I think there should be enough for a small increase in screw size.

Re: Stripped screw threads

Any decent machine shop can helicoil the threads to the original size.

THIS^^^ Is probably the best way to go about the fix. I think trying to go to a larger size will be unsucessful. There's just not enough room in the saddle slot to put a large enough screw that will get good bite.
