Stuck between two Roadstars, an RG440 and an RS530.

I have another thread running but I have narrowed down the options to these two and wanted a thread with a title to reflect this, in case it interested anybody new.

So.... I have an RS530. It's pretty beat up and I love the old thing. I recently realised that it's the neck..... nothing else comes close for me, personally. It just feels so good to play.

So I decided my next guitar should be something from Ibanez with a similar neck. I've now found an RG440 in lovely condition, and an RS530, likewise. The 440 is 30 cheaper, for what it's worth.

I just don't know which to take and I need to tell these guys ASAP. I'm truly torn. I know I love the RS530, so I am leaning towards it, but I am worried that I might miss something special if I don't choose the RG440?

What do you guys think?

If you lean towards the 530 and i know what you'll get why not just buy that one. Usually the higher number indicates a guitar that was more expensive new and might or might not have better parts.

Hi Jay,
In this case the RG440 is the superior guitar. I'm assuming that it's an '86 or '87 model (the only years they were made) . The reason the RG is superior can be said in two words.....THE EDGE!!! All RS-Deluxe series guitars (pre-'86) came with the "Pro-Rock'r" trem system that was pretty crappy. In '86 Ibanez gave all of the Roadstar Deluxe guitars the Edge system with "top-lok III nut", the RG440 being one of them. I have an Edge/Top-Lok equipped '86 RG410 that is nearly identical to a friends '85 RS530. The neck profiles are the same. Both are basswood bodied. His is H-H configured and mine is 1H. The big difference is mine having the Edge bridge (non-recessed) There's just no comparison in stability and sustain........... The Edge makes ALL the difference!!!!

If your lucky enough for the RG440 to be an '87, you'll get a pointy headstock unlike my "Roadstar" head........

My '86 RG410:

Cheers! I don't actually use the whammy bar, but if the Edge improves the sound through greater sustain, it's definitely grabbed my interest.

The one I'm looking at has the Roadstar headstock.

Re: Stuck between two Roadstars, an RG440 and an RS530.

Need to hurry up and buy one as I've just seen something else.....

Sorry for being a retard guys!

I've just laid eyes on a neck through RG..... very cheap. It's Korean made though which puts me off, and I have no idea if the neck will be as nice as the Roadstars' necks.... but damn, it's a neck thru!!

Jesus I am losing my mind now.....

Yeah I think I will take it even though it's battered as it's got something unique over the Roadstars. Just going to be gutted if the neck isn't as nice!

Well, it's either an RGT42, an RGT5EX, or an RGT6EX. All are decent guitars, but they came with horrible bridges. Although the RGT6EXFX was a fixed bridge.

Can the bridges be changed or blocked?

I guess I also should ask; would I regret buying the neck thru guitar over the other two?
