Summer NAMM 2016

June 23-25.

Any suggestions for Ibanez?

I would like to see more bubinga/wenge necks.

Re: Summer NAMM 2016

I dunno man.. the best thing they have done last year is RG3770DX.

In Japan they have released the new breed of RG family : RGV
I don't know what the spec is, since it's not in their website yet. But V stands for vintage, I expect nothing less than vintage spec not only in the hardware, but also the neck.. maybe something like rounder radius?

Unfortunately I can't see them doing these on Prestige level guitars. We ordered nearly 50 guitars, all with the same specs other than # of strings and pickups, and Ibanez said no to bubinga and wenge like on the Tosin model.

I would suspect it would be like Artwood Vintage and Artcore/Artstar Vintage where it's purposely distressed to look like a 30 year old, well used guitar.

From a few feet away, any company's relic or vintage relic reissue guitar looks old and worn, but on real guitars that are 30 years old there's usually not as much body damage and the real damage is a dinged up back of the neck and worn frets. Of course those affect playability so no company will put dents on back of the neck or put in flattened and divoted frets. To compensate, guitar companies put the wear on the body and sometimes on the fretboard surface but the backs of necks and frets are kept pristine so it plays like a new guitar regardless.

I really like the Artstar Vintage and love how the finish is rubbed off of the three piece back of the neck showing the mahogany and maple in what appears to be bare, exposed wood. I think for protection it's probably coated with a flat polyurethane so the wood won't crack and split.

Re: Summer NAMM 2016

My wish list:

A semi-custom shop: Give me a few different options to mix and match stock components: body, neck, hardware, finish, etc. Nothing fancy, just a few options to mix and match using the stock & OEM parts they're already creating.

I keep beating that drum. I know it'll never happen, but a guy can dream.

You can dream but evidently you can't drum!

A new color AHM would be nice.

no man, the RGV is out in the market already, looks like the same RG with vintage trem, pickguard, HSH. nothing much really.
but I don't see the actual spec of the neck, being 'V' , I expect they would put vintage neck in there.. but who knows?

That also sounds really cool, and I hope to see pictures soon. Maybe like the Timmons in a way?

flat radius fretboard with thick neck..? I don't get it.
I expect it would be nice if they put rounder radius like 305mm with thick neck.

That's hardly a thick neck, just thick(ish) for an RG. I like the sound of it.

22 mm. is pretty large for RG and I like it, too for a change.

Huge in general is one inch or 25.4 mm.

My older Artcore is 1.04" inches or a giant 26.4 mm. at 12th fret where I think most would like 23 or 23.5 mm for that design. That 1.04" inch Artcore form 2006 is even beefier at 12th fret than 1950s Gibsons. To each his own but the large for RG neck can attract come Fender players due to lack of Floyd and similar neck carve to many strats. This one is not close to strats but much closer than the typical RG550 or Jem.
