Sustainiac.....meh.

Anyone else had issues with guitars with Sustainiac drivers installed.?

2 JS's now and both have had sustaining failures resulting in the circuit boards being replaced..... usually id say the JS is the most reliable guitar Ive ever played, but now I have to take a backup in case the POS Sustaininac decides to crap itself mid-show?... Not good enough Ibanez.

I have a Kramer Baretta Infinity Sustainer with the original Floyd Rose Sustainer board and driver and it's still going strong, however you may find that simply changing over to the latest Fernandes system will fix the reliability issues.

Re: Sustainiac.....meh.

I’ve not got a sustainer guitar, but I have to say that, no, that really is not good enough!

Too bad these things have been around for so long but there's no competition and so therefore we have to deal with problematic units and non-existent customer service as a result.

Ha! hey Chris, dont let me put you off . They are still great guitars, and yes it would be repaired under warranty.

The Sustainiac can be temperamental.... think of it as dating a supermodel..... looks great, puts a smile on your face, but she's high maintenance

Get the 2480 man you won't regret it!

They're all a little different, all react a little different, all adjust a little different, they're kinda like a British car

I was gonna say they are like US Presidents.... you never know what your gonna get..... like Muscle Car Orange Trump..... unfortunately.... he is outside of his warranty period....

Yeah they have their own personality for sure..... its a shame they cant offer the JS line in a Sustianiac/Satch Track option..... guess it would be a pain for them.

Re: Sustainiac.....meh.

I have had several guitars with sustainiacs in them, and have never had a problem. Maybe the problem isn't the sustainiac, but the guitar production at Ibanez.

The circuit boards needed replacing so it’s the Sustainiac not the guitar

Dont let me put you off buying one, just be aware the more 'tech' you have in a guitar the more can go wrong I guess huh

Re: Sustainiac.....meh.

Are the parts available elsewhere, I mean can you repair your guitar when its out of warranty easily enough? (assuming the owner is very confident with a soldering iron).

The Sustainiac website doesn't give a lot away, in fact its somewhat confusing when in mentions the JS2480:

"Ibanez JS-2480 guitar control cavity photo. Note that the cavity wall at the top of the photo has to be shaved a little to make room for the Sustainiac circuit board. This can be done in a few minutes with a good hand chisel. "

Sustainiac Stealth PRO AUXILLIARY BOARD

Erm... why would the end user have to shave the JS2480 cavity wall with a hand chisel to fit their board, unless this refers to a new design board?

Chris

"This can be done in a few minutes with a good hand chisel."

Many things can be done in a few minutes with a good hand chisel and I feel the majority lead to regret.
