SV54070F much thinner than S540FM

My SV5470F is much thinner than my S540. The SV is from 2009, the 540 is from 1990. For example the upper horn on the SV is about .5" and on the 540 is about .75". I did not realize the S bodies were different from one era to the next.

Re: SV54070F much thinner than S540FM

wow! I had no idea that those older S series were so thick (I know, it should be the other way around but I've never seen an older one in person so the newer is the standard to me)

Beautiful guitars by the way

Maybe some full shots (of both of course!) just for s**ts and giggles?

Re: SV54070F much thinner than S540FM

I will try to get some pics of the 540 this weekend. There are a couple of pics of the SV in my NGD post here:

There is a lot of variation in the thickness at the edges, even in the old ones. How thick is it at the core? You can measure easily if you take the trem out.

It is definitely thinner, I will get some calipers and measure it this weekend.

There all different because they are sanded/shaped by hand.....i have many and they are all different,5mm-7mm for MIJ....7mm and up for the low end koreans etc.

When they went back to MIJ versions i was pleased to see truly skinny sabers again and from what I've seen of the new ones they are consistently in the very skinny zone just like my old 90.
