Swapping fretboard?

For my next project, I plan on using a maple neck + maple fretboard, but necks in general are really expensive, so instead of trying to find a cheap all maple, I was thinking of getting a simple neck and then just swapping out the fretboard (not me personally, but having someone who knows how to do it). Would this be hard to do? Should I just scrap the thought in general?

Re: Swapping fretboard?

If you remove the fretboard yourself I would probably be about 200 bucks. Thats what I did and I'm clueless about guitar buildin.

Re: Swapping fretboard?

I have no intention on doing this myself, I just want to know if how easily (if at all) it could be done for someone who knows how to do this ****

Re: Swapping fretboard?

Wouldnt the cost of a neck you dont want plus the cost of a new fretboard and paying someone to swap the boards be more expensive than just getting the neck you want to begin with?

I was looking into doing the same thing and project guitar has a tutorial, it doesnt seem hard, just time consuming

Re: Swapping fretboard?

Well, I may not be building from scratch so I may get an old style Jackson/Kramer/whatever and just use that neck and put the new board on there.

My mom's boyfriend may be able to help me with doing it but I'd rather bring it to someone who knows what they're doing.

Here's what I did. Eflay neck 570 130 bucks, took off the board had a guy install an ebony fake pearl vine for 200 so 330 bucks total. For 200 bucks they will remove the board for you what a waste of cash when all you need is an iron, razor blade and a putty knife.

Re: Swapping fretboard?

I know the Vocational school around here does stuff where they let the class see how to do certain things, maybe I could have the teacher demonstrate removing a fretboard and putting on a new one

Re: Swapping fretboard?

I don't think they will pay you to let them do it.
