Swirl,Tribute,Custom and Parts-Banez Guitars

Damn !

Has any1 noticed the HUGE market price decrease on the above guitars ?

I mean, most arent even worth the Dollar Value in parts anymore !

Long gone are the days of a fully-cleared Jem Swirl getting over $400...

Even the Herc's and OOTS Swirls have taken a hit.

I have also noticed that the Parts-Banez's and Tributes are at GIVE-AWAY prices.

All u have to do is look at the FS Forums, most guitars that cost $800 to put together and finish, using most new parts arent even worth $500 or even less lately ?

More and more persons are more than willing to do it themselves, understandbly,as thats the most fun bit !

With Site-Advice and YouTube,i suppose it was only a matter of time.

What impact will all this have on the backyard builders and the follow-on with the Parts Suppliers ?

Most of the above creations arent even worth the parts and are even harder to sell.

Opinions ?

I've seen this too. It's a little disarming for people like us that really get into doing customs. On the other side of the coin, with so many quality customs and tributes out there it really sets the bar high for us to create a noticeable custom........a challenge I can really get into. I'm in the process of one now that, if all goes as planned, will reach the bar. Maybe even go higher???

Of course guys like Al (Zoot), Andy, and a very select few others are WAY beyond the standard...... they help to keep a fire under guys like me even if our finished product isn't worth the parts we put into it.

Noticable, yes, valuable, no.

Theres some stunners and not to stunning ones out there, but the $$$ seems to drop with every single one listed and sold.

I am just gunna keep 'em until some1 see's and wants.

I might just stick to the Strats and LP's !!!

Thanks.

Re: Swirl,Tribute,Custom and Parts-Banez Guitars

I think that there's a couple of reasons for this.

The general feeling in most economies is that of negativity, even the individual regions aren't in recession.

There are a lot of swirlers and refinishers now, and with every new guitar swirled and sold the notion of swirling becomes less unusual and a bit more common.

Don't get me wrong, I like swirls, but it is only natural that as they become less unique they become less valuable.

Some will continue to stand the test of time, example:
I can't see this losing value, Herc PMC.

Re: Swirl,Tribute,Custom and Parts-Banez Guitars

Realistically I think that the only ones that will really hold their value are the 'good' ATD swirls. That Herc one is a great swirl, but is obviously a 'fake' and won't have the collectibility of the ATD swirls to folks who are looking to collect rather than play, which is where the money really is.

So, brilliant as that Herc is, it's not going to command the same price as an original PMC and is likely to devalue more quickly too.

Sad but true.
