Take a look at this '87 - '88 540S

There are so many of you around here that know about this stuff off the top of your heads... read this ad and tell me if it seems correct as far as the year, and the trem, and MIJ...? MIJ seems obvious, but what do I know, I am just a dumbass musician. But looks worth every bit of $250... Thanks!

That's what I was guessing, thanks guys. I asked for more pics. I really should not even be allowed on CL.

Looks pretty good in that pic. FWIW it looks like it has chrome hardware which would technically make it a 450s, not that it would keep me from snatching it up. There are only 2 differences between them....the hardware color and that the 450's were completely built in Japan as oppossed to the parts shipped to the US and assembled here.

This is not correct, or at least not correct here. '87 Sabers had chrome hardware and that guitar is definitely an '87.

The color is black cherry.

So it looks like it's the first year of the Roadstar PRO series, mahogany body, original edge...

Ok so maybe it could be either one depending on the neckplate? I had one about 10 years ago, was 87 or 88 cant remember now, same color, chrome hardware, chrome Japan neckplate. I just remember at the time I searched everywhere possible and finally found info indicating it was the 450. Now that I think about it, it may have had different pickups also like v7 s1's instead of the ibzusa's. I know mine had the dip switches and from what I remember I found out the 450 was only offered in the black cherry color in 87 and 88.

Re: Take a look at this '87 - '88 540S

If you saw a guitar called a 450 in 1987 or 1988, that would be the first I'm ever aware of it.

The guitar in the CL ad clearly has IBZUSA pickups and is clearly a PRO540S (as they were called in 1987). 1987 is really obvious because the volume and tone knobs are really close together and the input jack angles down. It angles up on every other Saber. The neck plate on an '87 PRO540S will be chrome and will say IBANEZ and Made in Japan below that.

For that price I would not have even posted it. I would have gone and bought it.

I didnt realize that about the neckplate. Thought the pro 540 stuff all had the bensalem plate. When did they start up with the new plate 88?
