Taylor 8-string baritone
Has anyone else tried this axe? If you haven't seen it, it's a baritone 6-string acoustic that has the middle 2 strings doubled an octave higher like a 12 string. I love it! I tried one at NAMM (and showed it off to John Petrucci) and again at the Taylor factory a few days later, and I've had one on loan for a month to do a review for a magazine. It's such a beautiful guitar. I've been using it for overdubs on a few proggy songs, and it's immediately revealed itself to be the missing ingredient the songs have been looking for. Dropped into the mix at a relatively low volume it tightens up the low end and adds this great sparkly sheen to the top. Because only 2 strings are doubled you don't get the chorusy sound on the highest 2 strings, and the lowest 2 sound really tough and strong because you can really dig in.
