Technical Saber question

I have a Saber body that has 'H&S' and 'S540 A' inked in the neck heel. It is black finished with HSH pickup and edge routing and the AANJ. I have been told it is a early nineties, but am having trouble verifying. I know the '89s and believe above had the AANJ, so its probably accurate.
The big question is, is the H S refering to pups, or were any of the Heart and Soul Ibanezs stamped? also, do I need an original edge, or can I use somethng newer if I cant find one.
I currently rebuilding, as I sold my Custom Made 90s Saber, and wanna get back at it.
Anything you can tell me would help, as I've heard there are a couple of Ibanez gurus here.

Re: Technical Saber question

if it's been made before '93 you can read the year of production on the neck joint plate. the first two numbers of the serial are the yoar of production. if it has an aanj is a post 93 model and the serial should be stamped on the back of the headstock. but if it's not a MIJ you can't have the year from the serial

Re: Technical Saber question

thanks guys. Unfortunetly, the Neck is missing in action, and because of the AANJ, there is no plate for serial reference. Didnt the Sabers start offering AANJs in '88/89? Im sure I have one of those catalogues and it shows Jen Batten beside the neck joint blurb.
Thanks for the link Rich!

Re: Technical Saber question

mmm the maxxas had aanj at that time but i'm quite shure the model that introduced aanj in ibanez line was the jem 7vwh, which is a 93 model. maybe you made confusion between the saber and the maxxas, which are quite similar at a first sight

Re: Technical Saber question

89's did not have the AANJ. That came about for 93, maybe some very late 92's .

Re: Technical Saber question

AANJ was available only on the 540SC and 540SCT6 models for 89 and 90 respectively. It's shown in the catalogs (and I have 90...).

And the 91 Gambale models got it as well.

Re: Technical Saber question

Thanks man, mystery solved. I suspected it was only the Saber custom, thanks for the clarification
