Rock that strat man.

So what about the necks in the pics above? I think they are the a 3 colour sunburst, so rosewood? The maple does look somewhat mismatched, but still cool.

Right...

Anyways, to the OP, I love my V-Neck (maple) American Deluxe. It's my best sounding and playing guitar I have. Fender is making some great quality guitars these days. I was playing a '62 and a '64 (both obviously pre-CBS), and although they sounded great, my Strat was right on par as far as tone and playability go. It just takes playing several different ones and find that "right" one. As with any guitar, I wouldn't buy online or without playing in person.

To answer your question, go maple!

MAPLE!!! No question, especially with a burst. For me, maple is automatic on a Strat, except maybe on white. I have a burst with maple and wouldn't have it any other way.

pee on fenders is what i say
I just don't get this guy.

I think maple sounds a bit different but I don't think it's such a difference that it should drive people one way or another. If you like one more than another asthetically then pick it and don't worry about tone differences so much.

Ordered a maple neck Deluxe strat today, cant wait. Pity it will take over a month before Fender UK get any in stock though... a month!!!!!

(its also a pity that Fender dont make a Floyd rose equipped American strat anymore.. that would be superb)

Edit: That order was cancelled, I cant wait 6 bloody weeks!!!!

Hate to get off topic, but I just can't help it...

Is it just me, or has losgatos ever said anything nice, intelligent, or helpful?
His comments are reminding me of a guy I know, a big Gibson whore, who claims that every Ibanez he's ever played (including a Tubescreamer) has "sounded terrible and nearly fallen apart in his hands."
Ugh.

Re: Thinking of buying a Fender American Delux 'fat' strat, but which neck?

Heyup, went for a maple neck HSS American Delux, its boring black with not so nice 'gold' pick guard (which might be replaced with a pearloid white one soon), although the matt gold is slowly growing on me and looks way better in the flesh rather than in pics . Anyway, it sounds bloody great, plays amazing, the neck is far easier to play than my JS or Jem, probably due to the larger frets - I dont suppose the fret board being maple has much to do with how easy it plays. The only thing I wasnt fussed about was the neck pickup, but a Dimarzio protrack has sorted that out! Harmonics are abundant and dont die off as soon as the trem is touched like they do on my Ibanez edge pro trems. I should have done this years ago.

Yep - strats rule. I would've said go for the rosewood . . . but I can never really decide between the two. I've got a texas fat strat with rosewood, but I'm thinking of sticking a maple neck on it. But maybe I should just buy another strat though, cause as I said, they rule. I think I know the guitar you bought - that gold pickguard looks classy to me - and it beats plain old white (or pearloid). Enjoy, and welcome to the Strat club!
