EDIT: NGD - Fender American Vintage '62 Stratocaster Reissue!

EDIT - Skip down a few posts to see my sweet new Fender! So long Jem, it was fun but you weren't for me!

Original post:

Title says it all really. Don't worry, it's not a 'Dude, who wants to swap their Strat for my Jem?' thread, as I think I may be able to arrange a swap with a store I have a good relationship with.

I'm just not connecting with my Jem7VWH and I'd like to get a US-made Strat. Here's what I like in Strats:

Vintage 6-screw trems

3-ply pickguards

3 single coils

Sunburst.

The ones I'm most interested in are the Classic '60s Stratocaster and the Custom Shop Time Machine 1965 Stratocaster NOS. I especially like the latter but I think I'd have to throw in some extra bucks on top of the Jem for such a swap.

Are there any other models you guys think I should consider?

G&L S-500 and you can do many custom upgrades. Basically a custom ordered guitar.

I love mine.

I love love LOVE G&L and I hope to get one some day but at the moment I really want to add a Fender to my collection (although I know that obviously G&L is 'more Fender than Fender' in some ways).

I spent way too much time at the G&L display at NAMM this year. It was awesome.

One of my Twitter followers alerted me to the American Vintage Hot Rod '62 Stratocaster. Same as the American Vintage '62 but with reverse-polarity middle pickup, 9.5" fretboard radius, medium-jumbo frets and 5-way switch (instead of 3-way but with a 5-way included as case candy). That sounds PERFECT.

Haha. I'll always love my Ibanez but in my line of work I get to play an awful lot of guitars (and sometimes a lot of awful guitars, ha!) and I'm really conscious of the fact that there's a lot more out there than just RGs with different pickups. I can't wait til I'm rich enough to go through a Gretsch phase.

Oooh, the Eric Johnson, good call! I liked the 3 John Mayer Strats I've played in stores too.

Re: Thinking of trading my Jem for a Strat. Model suggestions?

I know it's not an American strat, but I bought a Roadworn 50s Strat and after putting some Texas Specials in it and of the 5 Strats I've owned, and many that I've played working as a Fender dealer, it's easily one of the 2 best I've ever played. Even if the relic look isn't your thing, the 6105 fretwire and nitro finish are huge advantages over the other strats I've had.

+1, all the looks of a vintage fender with the playability of a modern guitar...the Olympic white model makes me drool Homer style.

So, after about an hour trying out every Strat in the store today, this happened:

Post and more pics on my blog. http://iheartguitarblog.com/2010/07/...atocaster.html

I'm really super totally loving this guitar. I wonder if this is the beginning of Being A Strat Guy.
