Thoughts about this trade...

I'm in dire need of cash and I have to let my JC8527 go (I don't have the nerves to play it on gigs anyway.....).

I've gotten an offer for a UVMC + 3500nkr (which is about 500 dollars).

what would you do?

Gawd... I'd love to get my hands on a 7-string piezo.

I'd do it from a strictly economical point of view.

Re: Thoughts about this trade...

If it's a nice UVMC I would make that trade no question. No question at all

Red face Re: Thoughts about this trade...

If in dire need of cash means 3500nkr will do it then you should be okay. If 3500 doesn't do it then you might want to see what else is out there...

Bottm line is you have to be okay with what you do...

Re: Thoughts about this trade...

Assuming you have to sell it, the missing info is:

A) how much are the two guitars worth? A nice condition RG8527 would probably fetch about $1500 USD minimum. here was one in the UK advertised at 1295GBP ($2600) for ages on the bay, I think it may have eventually sold after months, but usually they go for more like $1500 - $1700 USD. (that's my experience looking at the UK listings anyway)

Maybe someone else on the board can help with estimated value of the UVMC? Then it's just a case of seeing whether the swap is good value.

B) Are you happy with the change in specs?
RG8527 - ball end fret finishing, J-custom neck joint, nice neck pickup plus whatever bridge you've thrown in there, amazing quilted top, mahogany sound
UVMC - prestige style fret finishing, old-style neck joint (I think), Blaze pickups (I think), basswood sound, middle pickup

If you need to buy a replacement 7 string, you could maybe look at a used RG7620 or RG1527 and free up more money?

Re: Thoughts about this trade...

the verdict is in.

I went for the UVMC, which will be my first MC (I had a UV7bk before).

And I'm really looking forward to use a guitar and not being to afraid rock around with it

Re: Thoughts about this trade...

One thing I've learned - money comes and go - but a good guitar does not. I've sold one guitar in my whole life, for the same reason, and I regret it sorely.

What I am saying is that I'd go for the guitar I'd like the best of the two. If the UVMC makes you more thrilled/happy than the JC then do it. If not you''ll regret it.

Re: Thoughts about this trade...

Is it an MKR swirl or an ATD swirl?

I'd prefer your J-custom over a MKR. Not so with an ATD.
