Are the GIO models legit? What makes them a GIO?

everytime I see one I think of the GEO economy cars from back in the 90's. GIOs are starter guitars and that is all.

If a budget guitar in that price range is what you are looking for, they are better than Fender Squier Bullets or Epiphone Les Paul Juniors with bolt on necks. That being said while they are better than those particular and quite popular Squiers and Epiphones, the Squier and Epiphone lines do go much further up the ladder all the way into pro level instruments where the GIOs stay as budget instruments for beginners or as a backup on a gig. For instance, an Epiphone inspired by John Lennon Casino has almost no equal in a thinline hollowbody.

But once you are past GIO and into regular Ibanez guitars like the standard RG, S, and Artcores, you are generally better than most Squiers and Epiphones and are fully recordable and gigable. To get the extra professional edge without any doubts, there's the Premiums, Prestiges, and J Customs but standard Ibanez branded stuff over around $299 up to about $999 dollars will get you there among one of the many offerings the company has in that middle range.

A $299 RG421 gives you the bare bones needed in a quality guitar with no frills. An Iron Label for eight hundred is a fancier version of that along the same lines but with the top quality in that range. For the cool woods and extras you start falling into the Premium branded stuff at around a grand.

GIOs are ok if you are not sure you really, actually, forever want to play the guitar. If you are like me, in that you play the guitar because YOU HAVE TO PLAY THE GUITAR FOREVER, then spend a bit more and get something better.

This LOL My first guitar was a GRX40 and while it worked for me for a few months, I heard the Indo-made 350EXZ and got that, then hated the pups because my friend bought the DY 25th anniversary RG, so gave the 350 Evos, then bought my first prestige

Honestly not bad for a beginner guitar but once you get picky about your sound, you WILL want something better.
