Re: thoughts on Sterling JP50?

It's a cool guitar compared to the others in class. With that in mind, in this country the the Sterling's about £650, and I've seen the most basic American versions (basic as in no piezo, non matching headstock, and dot inlay) go second hand for 7-800. The Americans really are better guitars, the quality, the pickups. That's what I'd go for.

Re: thoughts on Sterling JP50?

The 2009 JP50 (made in Indonesia) is much better than the 2010 one (made in China) IMO. I tried both and 2009 is closer to the original JP6. If you get the 2009 model and replace the stock pickups with Liquifire/Crunchlab you will have a pretty decent axe for the price.

Re: thoughts on Sterling JP50?

Nice to hear, cuz I have those pups on my actual guitar. I wanted to ask this too: Is the pup change easily noticeable? (from stock pups to liquifire/crunch lab), or not that big change on sound?

Re: thoughts on Sterling JP50?

The stock pups are quite cheap, they just sound like they're thrown on the guitar because an electric guitar needs pickups. The build quality is quite good, not too bad, but not exactly as good as a Japanese or American Guitar. It plays great, just like the Americans and the arm rest is quite cool. The finish is rock solid and the arm rest makes a really smooth contour.
You gotta play one before you buy. A lot of people (myself included) don't connect with Jp's, they're quite unique.

Re: thoughts on Sterling JP50?

I picked one up recently for $350 US. It plays as well as my 1988 540S Saber, and the stock pickups are actually better than the ones in the Ibby. EXCELLENT value for the money.

Re: thoughts on Sterling JP50?

these sterlings are top notch man, I played a bunch about a week ago, and it was just mind boggling how GOOD they were. If you cant afford the real deal, this is a good second choice!!

any thoughts on sterling jp100 or jp60 vs ESP LTD Mh 1000 with floyd rose? (I know the ltd is more expensive but maybe the quality of the jp is better)

LTD 1000 would be a little better. However, they feel completely different lol, comparing apples to oranges here man. Cant compare a gibson les paul to an ibanez jem O.o

Re: thoughts on Sterling JP50?

yeah man I know, its just that theyre the two options i got at the moment
and its a shame that In my local market there aren't sterling models, that's why im getting the new guitar with my uncle that's coming from the US
my current guitar is a ltd m200 fm (maybe u dont know which model this is) but generally speaking do u think that I should stick to LTD's and get the MH or just go blind for the jp100 (cuz as I said, I dont have the chance to try one as there arenīt in our market)?
(If it's important to know, I play prog rock and metal mostly)

Re: thoughts on Sterling JP50?

IMHO, the LTD is the superior choice. I recently picked up a viper-400 for 180, and I absolutely love it. The original floyd and ebony fingerboard will just blow anything else out of the water.

I played a few in the store. It's an ok guitar. The sterling axis model is far superior
