"Tone 0" on the PGM10th

I was reading the PGM10th comments at Ibanez Japan the other day. It mentions that the PGM10th uses special wiring and that when setting the 5-way switch to the center, you get a "tone 0" effect. Cool. Now can someone please tell me what this means?

i don't know what the circuit does, but I've seen PG twice live, and he gets clean tones by setting the switch in the '3' position and lowering the volume. maybe this mod lets him do that only by flicking the switch.

if not, i think that would be a great idea IMHO

My theory: I think by "tone 0" they mean "tone = 0" as in, it sounds like turning your tone knob all the way down. Just a theory though.

That was my initial thought. But then, he doesn't use a tone knob so I would think all other positions would be tone 0 too...

Hmmm. Interesting. But how would he get around all the effects??? Maybe the position just allows better clean tones or something...

let me insist, this is only my idea, i don't have a clue what it really is (Rich?).
As for the effects, Paul gets around pretty easy, he only uses a boss chorus pedal. (for the 2 clinics i've seen, maybe in concert he uses a rack or something)

Sorry guys, been busy and it was tucked away. After a quick spin I'd have to say it sounds like the bridge bucker with the tone rolled off to 0, and pretty much what I'd call Tone 0 if I was in marketing

Yea, I opened the cover, nothing I can see out of the ordinary but with that VLX91 squeezed in there it's pretty tough to tell, and I'm not pulling the switch

Rich is right. This is what Paul said in the Guitar One Oct '01 interview:
"...the middle position, which I don't normally use, is actually wired up to be the bridge humbucker with a tone capacitor, so that I can get the sound of having a tone knob turned all the way down."

After checking the jp site it's definately the bridge bucker. Come on raijin, would have helped if you told us what this said!

LOL I guess a translation of the comments on the jp page would have been nice!

Thanks guys. I think I got it now. The only thing that is still unclear (for me anyways) is why he needs a special wiring to get a "tone 0" effect for the bridge pup. He doesn't use a tone knob. Does this mean that even though he doesn't use the tone knob, the pups are setup in a way that it is in effect???

Without a tone knob they're all on Tone 10, so if he wants a setting that Tone 0 he either has to put in a tone knob (won't happen) or wire it that way
