Is this too much for this guitar?

His reserve is $900. I think that a little high considering the pups aren't original. Thoughts?

Re: Is this too much for this guitar?

Considering the wear he describes and the issue with the selector swtich which should be replaced I would not pay that much for it myself. And it is not really a custom shop as most of the early 540s had that "custom" inlay.

In the end how bad to you really want one like this and is it too much for you?

Re: Is this too much for this guitar?

$900 might be a LITTLE bit high for this guitar, but there are some things you have to consider. It's old, but in very good shape. New, this guitar would've been in the $1200-1300 price range, if I'm remembering right. Even though the original pickups were the very desirable IBZ/USA pickups, to most non-Ibanez fanatic types the fact that it has Seymour Duncan replacement pickups would add cost/value to the guitar IMHO. It's an awesome guitar; the S540FM is probably my favorite of all S-Series guitars and if I had the money to spare I'd buy it right now.

After all is said and done, guitars are worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for them.

Re: Is this too much for this guitar?

I bid $600. I think that's fair considering the work I'd have to do, and would have to install the original buckers, since that's what I'd want. I'd prefer a trans black model....but since I can't find one, I'd take this.

Ok...thanks for the feedback guys!

Re: Is this too much for this guitar?

It is uncommon for those in TT to go over $600. $450-600 is normal. If you look through completed items there once a week or so you get to see what things actually sell for as opposed to asking prices. Thats probably a fair price if the gold was in excellent. I dont think the pickups are hurting the value one bit. The custom made inlay is on all of those guitars after early 91.

If his reserve is $900, it doesn't really matter if you think $600 is "fair", no? If someone else thinks $900 is a decent price, then you're out of luck....so goes the way of that site.

$900 seems high to me. I'd take action that he doesn't get there.

I completly understand that. I was just stating $600 is fair to ME. Now...I'm sure there are people out there that would pay $1k plus if they wanted it that badly.
