Tree of Life? Here?

I was wondering if anyone had seen the Tree of Life from PRS. My thoughts, one much better than the Tree of Life on the Jem, J.C.'s. Two, how are they getting away with calling it a ToL? I would think that Hoshino has that copyrighted...

Re: Tree of Life? Here?

It was around allot longer than the Jem. I'm also pretty sure the term, "Tree of Life" has been around for a few thousand years--just not in English.

Re: Tree of Life? Here?

It wouldn't matter if there are terms, saying phrases that have been around for ever, but that doesn't stop someone from copyrighting it and stopping other people from using it for their products. How long has PRS had a tree of life inlay? This is the first I've seen them.

Re: Tree of Life? Here?

I suppose they can do it because it's different looking. Ibanez should in turn rip off the bird inlays.

It looks nothing like the Ibanez Tree of Life inlay, so I think PRS is good to go.

Re: Tree of Life? Here?

i saw this a couple of weeks ago - and its a relatively new thing for PRS, and i think a limited run too!

very intricate, yes, and im sure they'll charge through the nose for it, but i dont like it - very hard to actually tell what it is/whats going on! much prefer the ibanez ones (both JEM and JC)!

Re: Tree of Life? Here?

The first time I saw a vine was on a Ibanez my first guitar teacher had.
I don't know the model but it was just a few years before the JEM was out.
It was a blond body kind of Les Paul shaped with tuners on both sides of the neck. I think it had a Les Paul style bridge and two humbuckers.

I like it

though maybe it's just because I'm just sick of the Tree of Life on Jem's and JC's

Re: Tree of Life? Here?

Luthiers have been putting vines in necks for decades before Ibanez got into the action. Martin was inlaying vines in mandolin fretboards in the 1890's.

Re: Tree of Life? Here?

hmm. I must say I like it too. The name thing is weird, but I don't think they could've called it anything else.

I'm sure a few of you know, but the vine inlay exactly what is one the jems was first on some of the high-end 70s artist series. and some sig model, I forget who.

Earl Scruggs mode for the LP, possible Scruggs or Bob Weir on the second.

Re: Tree of Life? Here?

Yeah, the Bob Weir model had the same Ibanez vine inlay as the JEMs do.
