Tried a Tokai strat today...

So I was being told that Tokai guitars were really solid and high quality for the price point (after going on and on about Fujigen) so one of the guys at the shop, before my guitar lesson, let me try a tokai strat (cream colored... hey wait a minute ).

I was amazed at how well it played. That particular guitar retails for about 60,000 yen but just wow. MIJ strat and it sounded GREAT. I don't know how to describe it, it just felt "right." My only issue is the small frets (I love my jumbos) so it was hard at first to play but I got used to it fairly quickly.

The only downside is that the neck had like really thick lacquer so while it felt smooth, I'd much rather have less lacquer on the neck. Maybe my Carvin and my RG2550 spoiled me to the greatness of a thin coat on the neck (or tung oiled, like my Carvin).

Just thought I'd tell my story of my first experience with a Tokai guitar. Has anyone else tried these? Are they even sold outside Japan?

Cool beans! I don't know of any shops that sell Tokai guitars here in the US. Some random local shop may sell them but I know the big box guitar stores don't. It's good to know that if I ever come across one it's worth picking up and giving a test drive.

Definitely try it out. You might find a hidden jem that most people won't know what it is

Because Tokai still insists on infringing on U.S. copyrights- you won't see them sold anywhere in the States.

Oh. Then why is Fujigen allowed to sell guitars in the US? Is it because they changed the shape or something to make it so Fender wouldn't go after them?

Well Fujigen don't use the Fender headstock do they?

Some Tokai do use other companies proprietary headstock designs, which had resulted them in having limited sales markets.

I had no idea if there would be any for sale... just searched on it to see. I was surprised to see so many out there on the used market.
