Unusual S540

Hello fellas,

I saw a very interesting S540 on sale on eBay a while ago. I was going to buy it, but sadly somebody snatched it up before me. It went for ~$900 in the end.

It's an S540 I've never seen before. I've gone through all the catalogues and couldn't find anything which resembled it.

The serial number is unusual too - not made in the Fujigen factory.

Does anybody know what this is and the year it was made?

I'm thinking this may be a rare truly worthy of the "Custom Made" inlay?

Here are links to the images.

Japanese only special edition, quite rare. The only differences are the obvious stuff you see.

Quite frankly all 540 guitars are worthy of the "Custom made" inlay, thanks to the design work between Japan and USA that brought us these highly innovative range of models.

Thanks Corey - do you know the year at all or where it was made?

Oh man... thats my all-time favorite Ibanez finish. The translucent teal and gold hardware just looks so classy. Too bad you missed it!

Re: Unusual S540

I've seen a few of those before. Can't remember the exact model,
might help your search if you try S540qm (quilted maple) or S540qs.
Weren't there S540's that were quilted sapele??

Re: Unusual S540

To me what stood out about that guitar is the direct mount pickups, which frankly all Sabers should have at this point. I think that's the only 6-string Saber I've ever seen with direct mounts.
