Upgrading a Std trem?

It's been several years since I've been on here so hello to all. I was wondering if there is a direct replacement for the Std DL trem on a rg450? If not which would be a good way to go with the least modifications? Sorry if this was asked before but I couldn't find it. Thanks.

Re: Upgrading a Std trem?

You'll need to give us a bit more information. What year was your guitar made?

The RG450 has been around for a long time. So there are several different bridges that came stock on that guitar.

The earliest RG450s had the excellent Original Edge. There's no reason to get rid of this.

Then, in the mid-1990s, Ibanez switched to the truly awful Lo-TRS II bridge. You maybe able to swap an original floyd rose for this one.

More recently, they've been using something they call the ILT1. This looks no better than the Lo-TRS II, and is probably also something you could replace with a Floyd Rose.

Ok thanks. It's newer guitar so an OFR sounds good. I'm going to look further into going that route.

Re: Upgrading a Std trem?

Std. Dl isn't an actual trem, it means "standard double-locking"

Do you know exactly what year your 450 is? If it's post 2011 it should have the edge zero II trem, which like the original edge is good and woudln't need to be replaced. Before 2011, it would have either an edge III or a trs bridge. the ILT1 hasn't been used in a while.

If it has an edge III (more rounded shape) I would swap an edge pro into it. It will directly swap.. If it has any TRS bridge, an original floyd would be suitable.

Also, if you're getting a new bridge I would replace your studs. This is sometimes overlooked, but can really make your guitar like new, especially if the old bridge wore the old ones out. Rich at ibanezrules.com sells ibanez locking super studs.

Re: Upgrading a Std trem?

Thanks for that added info. I ended up grabbing a '98 MIJ rg470 instead but I'm still looking at the other guitar which is actually a mahogany body/rosewood top rg321 not a rg450 like I first stated. Yeah, I'm all over the place!
