Uppercut series, Collectable?

I think the answer is probably no, but just curious if anyone thinks the Uppercut series guitars might be slightly collectible since they only made them for a short time and in small numbers?

I could never figure out why they were priced so high and I'm sure that's what did it in. I bought mine used to get around it. I'm looking at the RG5120M and it seems like a nicer guitar with more features and it's list is $300 less than the Uppercut's were.

Not collectible, great player guitars for the audience they were built for so there may or may not be demand depending on how tastes change, but the reason for the price difference is ebony and Bare Knuckles. I have no idea how much the Fishmans run but I know the BK's are not cheap. And I was charged $400 for ebony alone on my prop model.

Hey Rich,

Hope life's been treating you well!

Ebony looks good, but man that's quite the premium.

I will say the RG6UCS is an incredible guitar. But as it typically goes, there's things I wish it had that it doesn't. Mainly just some highly visible fret inlays and a mahogany body to fatten up the tone a bit. The RG5120M kind of solves that with the side inlays, but they put the light colored inlays on a maple board (huh?). Love the idea of an ash top on a mahogany body though and the Frozen Ocean is amazing. Hope they continue to use that finish in some other colors.

Do you have any hints about new colors in the Rg5000's for Summer NAMM?

I don't know the process of that finish but I love the result.

Who know what summer will bring, if anything.

Kinda depends on how you define "collectible". In the sense that they'll retain their value at least as well as regular Prestiges, I'd say that they likely will. In the sense that you should cash out your 401(k) and instead hoard Uppercuts, definitely not. NO Ibanez guitars (and very few guitars of any make) are collectible in that way (Gilmour sale prices notwithstanding).

Did you watch the sale? I couldn't get in until lot 80, the server was overloaded, just kept refreshing till it opened.

I recorded the sale of 127. That record will stand until Page sells his Burst. And it still might stand.

I didn't watch, but wasn't surprised by the prices. The guys like Irsay who are bidding on this stuff are so damned rich that an extra digit or two in the price simply doesn't register. It would've been interesting to see what the Black Strat would have gone for if Paul Allen were still around to go at it with him.

All of his real workhorse guitars sold for the money they deserved. The buyer was in the room, the same 2 guys from 1.5 up. The buyer was also the one that paid 175k for it's case the lot before [that's why you put a case up first].

Yeah, this clearly wasn't Christie's first rodeo.

I have a hard time thinking any guitar is worth $4M, but I was glad to see the prices mostly because the proceeds are largely going to charity.

And some people can't see any guitar worth $1000. It's the perspective of the wallet IMO

Yeah, a $4Million donation to saving the planet and I'll throw in a well used, second hand Fender Strat. Sorry, I've only got this black one , will that do...?

Ibanez seems to discontinue guitars the same year they are introduced often enough to notice. You have a great guitar in an unpredictable industry. Focus on playing you great guitar and see what happens.
