USA Custom????

Don't know what to think of this. Says to be USA Custom '93 ( F938568 ) Carvin Allan Holdsworth pick-up's, strange Wilkinson locking-tremelo.

This is first time I see one.....correct or fishy???

Re: USA Custom????

Would seem odd to me for Ibanez to use a Wilkinson trem :S

Looks like a sweet guitar though!

Re: USA Custom????

Looks...odd. The pickups are Carvins, as you pointed out, and there's a weird area underneath the bridge. The neck obviously had a locking nut, originally. Also, the strap button is screwed into the back of the horn, instead of the tip.

The Fxxxxxx serial number is a giveaway, isn't it? The F stands for "Fujigen" and designates guitars made at the Japanese Fujigen Gakki factory. I believe the USA Customs have a USxxxxxx serial number.

And this page here:

http://www.jemsite.com/usa/gallery/index.htm

implies that USA Customs weren't made in 1993.

I'm not an expert, but it looks fishy.

Re: USA Custom????

Did Ibanez use this logo on USA Custom? I thing it should be Ibanez Custom without ripple. This guitar doesn't look like USA model to me. Maybe neck is from RG770 (because of the logo and offset dots). It looks like heavy modded guitar, I would buy it only for a reasonable price and definetely would try it first.

It's hard to tell, but if you look closely on the headstock in the above photos, it looks like it says "USA Custom." But that doesn't explain why there would be an F serial number on it.

Re: USA Custom????

Well, it ain't stock, that's for sure. That's a nice looking fretboard, have you played it? It wouldn't particularly scare me off if it was priced right. I like the orange stain; the mahogany back looks great with that tint. It badly needs its intonation set ;-)

Re: USA Custom????

It originally had an Edge or Lo Pro on it. The black area between the bridge and the pickup is where someone filled the are to put the Wilkinson on, also the holes for a locking nut are a dead giveaway. It's a nice looking guitar, but is severly modded.

Re: USA Custom????

thats not a us custom the neck might be but it looks like someone put it all together and just called it one. i hope you didn;t pay to much for it. bye 93. the headstock would have had usa custom over the name ibanez.

Re: USA Custom????

headstock is different from USA Customs headstocks... logos differ.... USA Customs (at least the graphic ones) have Fxxx serial numbers, as theyre not made in the USA... (dunno bout the exotic woods)

Cool guitar, i wouldnt take out an Edge for a wilkinson tho, would have picked a fixed bridge axe to mod like that...

oh and check out USA Custom info here on jemsite, theres a lot there

Re: USA Custom????

Yeah,it's definitely not all that it's claiming to be. I reckon at best it's a USA Custom body but even that's been modified which really cancels out any value it did have(which wouldn't have been a fortune anyway).

The 'USRG' models are the more sought after guitars and they were actually built in the US by 'PBC Technologies' (i think that was the companys name anyway). They generally had the 'tension-free neck' which that is definitely not.
The other even more desirable USA models were called the 'American Master' series and they were superb guitars. They were apparently built by another company for Ibanez.

Re: USA Custom????

what's really confusing me is that the maple veneer/top goes all the way to the back of the bridge. So, if the body did indeed have an edge or a lopro, then someone put a new top on the guitar. Otherwise there should be some evidence of an edge route behind the wilkinsons, but there isn't.

I don't think its an edge guitar modded to a wilkinsons.

EDIT: Im thinking its a USRG10 body (although it seems they only had quilts), with another neck. You can notice that in the aanj, theres the adjustment hole for a tension free neck, but the neck isn't a tension free neck at all (not brass ring at the nut).

Re: USA Custom????

I must say I've always been a sucker for strange unique Ibanez guitars. The Maxxas, the RG 3070, USA Customs, JS-7.....

This guitar just looks and smells USA Custom. But strange pups, and Wilkinson mod. threw me off. Description says that with flip of switch you can lock the trem??? Interesting!!

It does say USA Custom on headstock, but I wasn't aware they came like that. This link shows it does.

http://www.jemsite.com/usa/gallery/...ew1fm/index.htm

Serial nummer says starting with F (reads Japan)???

Flame maple on front of body is also not uniform. Almost like fineer that has been sanded down.

That's strange to me too. If it had Edge or Lo Pro Edge.....the cavity would have gone beyond the Wilkinson trem. If they re-topped guitar......why not cover part infront of trem also.

Did notice the additional hole at the neck bolts.

Guitar is currently offered for sale for 750 Euros. But for that kinda money you pick up an "original" USA Custom.

Re: USA Custom????

Needs gold hardware and should be green, then I would mind getting my hands on it fake or not.

F9xxxxx is 1989, a 1993 would be F3xxxxx.

Neck is from a USA Custom Graphics or Exotic Wood model.

Body could be a refinished 5xx, because I seem to remember the USRG's having a shallower "tummy cut" on the back of the guitar, and that has a regular one.

Maybe a re-topped RG520? That weird area buy the bridge may be some type of fill to support the Wilkinson, since the posts are in a majorly different location from an Edge.

Whatever it is, it's not stock, and it's definitely not from the LA Artist Custom Shop, since they brand(like cattle) the SN# on the back of the headstock.

Re: USA Custom????

the body is definately not a 5** series. note the adjustment hole for a tension free neck.
