USA Custom question

I just found a USA Custom that I can't ID, so I coming to the true authorities in this area. (Just a little brown nosing-I hope you're not offended!)

The thing that confuses me is that it has what looks like an ordinary black RG headstock except that it says USA Custom where it usually says RG Series. It has a 6 digit serial number F038XXX. That makes it a 1990 right? But the F would make it a Fujigen, or MIJ guitar, right? It has a flame maple top, fixed bridge, and the offset dots on the fingerboard.
How do these guitars compare to a Prestige? I am considering this and an RG3120, but I can only get one or the other. I am pretty up on the MIJ RG's, but I know very little about the USA stuff, so I could use as much info as you guys can give me. Thanks!

Re: USA Custom question

... USA custom's are Fujigen parts assembled in either the Bensalem or N. Hollywood shops. They're relatively comparable to the RG7xx of the era; a much different spec to the Prestige line-up. However, a fixed bridge USA custom RG from the early 90s is quite rare...

Re: USA Custom question

Fixed bridge RG? Does it have a regular nut? A pick of the body would help?

Re: USA Custom question

Yes, regular nut. I don't have a pic as I don't have the guitar yet. I have seen one other USA Custom with a fixed bridge though. So, would the neck be comprable to a Wizard?

Thanks,

Chuck

Re: USA Custom question

Yes they did use that type of logo as well, but I have never seen a USA Custom like the one you describe...
About your choice: would you rather have a trem, or a fixed bridge?

Re: USA Custom question

I've seen one like this at The House of Guitars in Rochester, NY back in the day. Fixed bridge RG USA Custom with the older-style logo. So that's at least one other out there.

Re: USA Custom question

Yeah, it is somewhat similar to that pic, but like jazzed out mentioned, the normal headstock and logo. Also, this has a hum-s-hum setup.

Does anyone have opinions as to the overall quality and value of these guitars? I am considering this one, a kinda beat RG3120, an rg570 flametop, and a nice s540. I have about $600 to spend...

Re: USA Custom question

Yeah go for the US Custom. Seems like a nice guitar and you've got something special. If you can try it out first and when it feels right go for it!

Re: USA Custom question

The one I played was a great guitar, and certainly you can always find a s540 or 570 down the road. This might be the lsat time you get a chance at a fixed-bridge USA Custom...
